| ABOUT US
ACBA was incorporated as a 501
(c) 3 nonprofit organization in 2002. Since its
inception, ACBA has represented Affton residents and has
been working to make sure Affton remains a great place to live
and work. ACBA defines "Affton"
as the area including all of zip code 63123 and all parts of the
Affton
School District and Bayless
School District.
Over the years ACBA has worked
with St. Louis County on several programs including Neighborhood
Assistance Program Tax Credits and the Affton Community
Plan. ACBA has also partnered with the local school
districts, the Affton Chamber of Commerce and Neighbors
Assisting Neighbors to complete community clean ups and tire
clean ups. The Holiday Lights Committee has sponsored a
holiday lighting contest and party annually for the past few
years. The Beautification Committee hosted housing tours
and gardening contests.
In 2006, ACBA entered a
collaborative grant process with the University of Missouri -
St. Louis (UMSL) called the Affton Community Partnership.
The partnership brings together resources of the Affton
community partners, Affton residents and UMSL to strengthen ACBA
as well as welcome New Americans to the Affton community and
support the older resident population in the area. The
partnership is supported by a two-year Community Outreach
Partnership Center grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and
Urban Development. To read more about the partnership and
the New Americans and Older Residents Task Forces visit www.umsl.edu/~conted/cpp/acp/index.html.
As a part of the partnership
ACBA underwent a strategic planning process which involved over
25 area stakeholders. The process led ACBA to focus
efforts on area Housing and Public Education. Committees
have formed to address these focal points. Visit the committee page to find out more
about what they are doing and how you can get involved.
In addition to the work the
individual committees are doing, ACBA provides benefits to the
community by hosting community forums. Community forums
are held quarterly. For each forum, ACBA brings an expert
into the community to answer your questions about an issue or
topic that is important to area residents. Presentation
topics that have been covered so far are the Missouri Education
Financing Policy and St. Louis County's Re-Occupancy Permit
Program. The forums also include a social hour which gives
residents the opportunity to mingle with each other and talk
with representatives from local organizations and St. Louis
County government. If you have a topic you would like to be
covered at a community forum, let ACBA know. Click
here for information on the next forum and on past forums
ACBA is also a means for
residents to connect with the St. Louis County government.
ACBA has monthly meetings with county government staff and
elected officials to discuss what is going on in the Affton area
from their view and from the resident view. These monthly
meetings are held on the third Thursday of the month at 9:00
a.m. at Commerce Bank on Gravois Road.
Don't worry if you can't make
the monthly meetings, there are plenty of additional ways for
residents to be involved! Email us at afftonacba@yahoo.com
